Gemini’s Pete Brimmer Named SAC’s Outstanding Member of the Year

The Sign Association of Canada (SAC) presented its inaugural Outstanding Industry Contribution Award to Peter Brimmer of Gemini Incorporated during the 2013 CONSAC Imagemakers National Tradeshow and Conference held recently in Mississauga, Ontario.

Brimmer, a two-time former SAC president, began his career in the sign industry in 1993 when he accepted the position of General Manager and Director of Sales for Gemini Canada. One of the world’s leading manufacturers of dimensional letters, logos and plaques for the sign and recognition industries, Gemini celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2013. Gemini’s Canada division is headquartered in Neustadt, Ontario.

During the past two decades with Gemini, Pete has traveled from coast to coast across Canada visiting the numerous sign businesses across the country. During his first meeting with the SAC in 2002 he was confirmed as a supplier member and elected Secretary Treasurer. He was elected president of the group in 2005 and filled in as acting president in 2007 when the actual president stepped down due to health issues. Pete continues to stay active as Chairman of the SAC bylaw committee.

“Pete has personally visited nearly every sign shop in the country, not just selling Gemini’s products, but also selling the need for industry association to represent their interests in Canada,” said Don Ross, national sales manager for Roland DGA and a long-time CONSAC exhibitor. “He continues to be active as a member of SAC’s show committee, and he contributes to its golf event and chosen charity, Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. Apart from that, he is one of the nicest people in our industry.”

The newly established award is intended to recognize SAC members who have:

Developed best practices, created professional guidelines and/or built a product or service that improved the way the industry does business.

+ Their expertise, professional influence or academic position has provided others with the opportunity, inspiration or ability to pursue excellence in the world of signage;

+ A member who has demonstrated leadership and risen to become an ambassador of the industry;

+ Gives freely of his/her time and expertise in promotion of the industry associations or related chapters;

+ A member who has a lifetime of distinguished service in the industry; and

+ A member who represents everything Imagemakers should be /achieve: industry experience, client satisfaction, business acumen and mentorship.

According to current Gemini Canada General Manager Kerri Eady, Pete has always taken his role in the sign business very personally, adding that anyone who knows Pete knows that his personality was a perfect fit for the sign industry.

“With suppliers and customers alike he built some pretty long lasting relationships and friends,” Eady explained. “Pete once spoke of how very flattered he was to be invited to become a part of the board all those years ago and based on his current involvement it is still a valuable contribution.”

The Thirteenth Annual CONSAC show took place September 20 and 21 at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. SAC will also host two regional trade shows in 2014, including one in British Columbia in March and another in Quebec in May.
