“We have been a valuable source in the wide format industry for many years. For the last two years at the SGIA Expo, we have answered the call to test the limits for larger capacity and better productivity machines,” remarked Bruce Peterson, president of Colter & Peterson. “This year, in addition to our SABER® X-15 PLUS paper cutter with Microcut® electronics, we will also promote our reconditioned machines.

“We handle a number of well-known brands, such as Challenge, Lawson, Polar and Seybold, to name a few, that have the capability many wide format providers want, but they may not be able to afford a new model. We completely rebuild these machines, update the back gauge control and safety systems, and allow the customer to inspect and test them before shipping. And we support each machine with a full warranty.”

As North America’s largest independent distributor of paper cutters and paper handling equipment, Colter & Peterson understands the importance of what greater productivity means to any size shop. With most C&P paper cutter owners taking advantage of what a Microcut package offers with smart electronics, Peterson points to wide format customers from coast-to-coast that have experienced productivity increases of 50 percent or more.

“A west coast customer is saving a tremendous amount of time with his 141-inch SABER X-15,” he said. When he trims four sides of 126-inch paper sheets, he can spin it all without backing out of the cutter. They trim work on 40-pt. styrene, and I was told their tolerance for cutting large graphics up to 140-inches is not a problem. He also saves time using Microcut JDF files during layout.”

The SABER line is ideal for wide format users who print wall panels, backdrop, and P-O-P displays. It cuts everything from thick styrene, Coroplast and plastic to E Flute corrugated, paper and foam board. Having Microcut makes a difference and it is available on reconditioned units.

“A Minnesota SABER X-15 PLUS customer improved their productivity, and the greater capacity factor has made a huge impact. They doubled their capacity by taking straight cut work from their digital cutters,” said Peterson, noting the customer produces complex, high-end P-O-P displays with added layers and graphics that are printed on corrugated E Flute, 4 mm Coroplast and 20-mil styrene.

Peterson mentioned how an Ohio customer went from cutting 400 sheets during an 8-hour shift, to doing the same amount in less than one hour after installing a 141-inch SABER X-15 PLUS.

“They also use one of our Polar cutters, but the SABER is trimming 100-inch sheets,” he says. “They’ve had no issues cutting 24 pt. paper or 48-inch-by-24-inch sheets at 60-mil that they run through an HP flatbed printer. It’s just a matter of time before they go to 80-mil.

“They tested it with a single sheet and the blade went straight through it, which impressed them since styrene that thick is a really tough plastic material.”

Peterson welcomes all SGIA Expo visitors to talk about their plans for a new or rebuilt paper cutting system, Visit C&P booth 3150 or go to www.papercutters.com for more information.
