Nearly two billion people in rural areas of developing countries have an urgent need for safe, affordable electric home lighting. Through Irvine-Halliday’s Light Up the World Foundation (LUTW), feasible and appropriate Solid State Lighting solutions continue to be achieved.
A self-proclaimed citizen of the world, Irvine-Halliday spent two decades in Fiber Optic Sensors & Communication plus Biophotonics before discovering his life’s work. In 1997, he founded LUTW. As a result of bringing lighting to more than 20,000 homes, schools, etc. in 42 countries, Irvine-Halliday is the recipient of numerous awards including the Reader’s Digest Hero, Time Canada Hero, and APEGGA.
