This past December, the United States Sign Council (USSC) of Bristol, Pennsylvania announced the winners of its 2011 Member Sign Design Competition. Designer Donal McKernan and Danthonia Designs of Inverell, NSW, Australia was awarded Best in Show for the hanging sign it designed and constructed for The Hedonist vineyard in Willunga, Australia (above).
As always, winners were determined by a distinguished panel of industry-experienced judges and were unveiled at last December’s Sign World USA in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
First Place winners included:
“Building Signs, External/No Illumination” – River Signs (company)/Terence O’Connor (designer) of Lambertville, New Jersey (The Stephan House, project);
“Building Signs, Internal Illumination” – Creative Sign Designs/James Montero of Tampa, Florida (Glazer’s Children Museum);
“Digitally Printed Sign” – Visual Communications, Inc./Richard Lang, Constance Carlson, and Jesse Yunger of St. Paul, Minnesota (Saint Paul College);
“Dimensional Signs” – The Great American Sign Co./Gary Johnson of Basking Ridge, New Jersey (Handmade By Gary);
“Ground Sign” – Saxton Sign Corp./Michael Kellogg of East Greenbush, New York (Saxton Sign Corp.);
“Hand Carved” – Danthonia Designs/Donal McKernan (The Beer Library);
“Hand Painted Sign” – Danthonia Designs/Nancy Kaiser (Wisemans Ferry);
“Multimedia” – Gable Signs and Graphics/Curtis Arbaugh of Baltimore, Maryland (Chesapeake Beach Rod & Reel);
“Original Logo Design” – Danthonia Designs/Donal McKernal (Amooran Oceanside Motel);
“Vehicles, Applied Graphics or Wraps” – Nagle Signs, Inc./Tim Jensen of Waterloo, Iowa (Glass Tech).
