Cooley Group Earns ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Standard Certification

Cooley Group, a worldwide leader in the development and manufacture of high-performance, sustainable engineered membranes, proudly announces that it has earned ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Standard Certification from TUV SUD America, an internationally accredited firm for management system standards. The certification is the most widely accepted international standard for environmental management systems (EMS).

(Note: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a non-governmental body that develops standards for business, government, and society. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard with specific requirements for an environmental management system. ISO 14001 certification ensures compliance with environmental laws and regulations governing a wide variety of environmental activities.

The successful award of the ISO 14001:2004 certification further solidifies Cooley’s commitment to develop sustainable products, reduce and recycle waste, and efficiently use its energy resources. Cooley is now among an elite group of companies that hold dual ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications, offering its customers solutions manufactured to the highest quality and environmental standards.

“Cooley continues to take a leadership role in initiating policies and practices that ensure the Company conducts business as a global, corporate environmental citizen by complying with internationally recognized and accepted sustainability practices,” said Cooley Group Chief Operating Officer David Pettey.

Cooley also has implemented various sustainability initiatives; among them, Cooley’s G.R.E.E.N. program, developed to help the Company’s employees, meaningfully engage with and positively influence its environmental and sustainability goals and objectives. The acronym represents the program’s key tenets: Global stewardship, Reduce and Reuse resources, Environmental compliance, Eliminate waste, and No pollution. Its key objectives are to develop sustainable products; create zero landfill waste by recycling internal and external waste streams; and reduce water, gas, and electricity consumption rates.

The ISO certification comes as a result of the Company’s history of applying sustainability principles in its manufacturing processes. At the end of last year, for example, Cooley had used almost 25 million pounds of recycled material (that would have otherwise ended up in landfills) to manufacture new products. It also reduced its gas energy consumption by 75 percent and its material waste generation during production by more than 70 percent.

“We are very proud of our team for achieving dual ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications,” said Cooley Group President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Dwight. “Cooley solutions have always been known for their high levels of quality and proven performance.

“We are excited to now be recognized as offering the highest level of sustainability to our existing and prospective customers, while adhering to stringent environmental practices that support the local facilities and related communities in which we operate.”
