Fujifilm_TechnicalCenterThe Technical Center for Inkjet Printing, located in Fujifilm’s Hanover Park, Illinois, facility, was designed to demonstrate and support the company’s leadership role in inkjet technology. The culmination of a series of strategic acquisitions and technological innovations led to the development of Fujifilm Inkjet Technology, the focal point of the Technical Center for Inkjet Printing.

Fujifilm Inkjet Technology stems from the integration of the company’s legendary reputation for digital imaging and color accuracy, combined with state-of-the-art print heads from industry leader FUJIFILM Dimatix. Complete process and quality control over these vital aspects of inkjet printing come together in the J Press 720, and create a new category for the printing industry.

The J Press 720 was commercially introduced at Graph Expo 2010 and is the first half-size, sheetfed inkjet press capable of producing offset quality. The J Press 720 uses FUJIFILM Dimatix SAMBA™ print heads to achieve true 1,200-by-1,200 dpi resolution, a specification unobtainable from any other system on the market. The J Press prints 2,700 four-up sheets per hour, equivalent to 10,800 8.5-by-11-inch pages per hour, on standard coated and uncoated stocks with a maximum sheet size of 29.5-by-20.8 inches. The J Press has the look and feel of an offset press with similar paper delivery and exit, yet offers the versatility and job handling of a digital device.

“The opening of the Technology Center for Inkjet Printing exemplifies the strategy built around Fujifilm Inkjet Technology and clearly indicates that we will continue to forge a path as a leader in inkjet technology for the graphic arts industry,” said Stephen Sanker, director, Inkjet Presses, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division. “Since establishing the center, we have conducted more than fifty customer demonstrations. The extremely strong interest shown in the J Press and in Fujifilm Inkjet Technology has led to numerous requests for samples and demonstrations. The center has proven to be a valuable resource for printers hungry for more information on inkjet printing, and has provided valuable feedback for us.”

The J Press 720 expands the range of jobs a general commercial printer can take on by enabling high-quality, short-run print work. The J Press provides an effective inkjet solution that allows the flexibility and versatility of using standard coated and uncoated stocks and finishing characteristics associated with the durability and performance of an offset sheet. Fujifilm Inkjet Technology provides outstanding quality printing that is on par, and in many cases, exceeds conventional offset quality.

“The J Press 720 is a pressroom production device with the paper handling capability and print quality to meet the demands of the most discriminating print buyer and easily integrate into a commercial printing operation,” said Sanker. “There is enormous pressure on commercial printers and print buyers to find a cost-effective solution without compromising quality or requiring any special operational changes. Many commercial printing operations today are looking for additional services and capabilities they can promote to their customers in an effort to grow both their customer base and their market share. The J Press delivers benefits to help printers in these areas and the Technical Center is an excellent resource to illustrate these benefits.

“Fujifilm has one of the most comprehensive inkjet product offerings in the industry and our devices address the needs of commercial printers no matter where their business is today or where they want to go tomorrow.”

The Technology Center for Inkjet Printing integrates the full Fujifilm solution, including workflow products such as Workflow XMF and FUJIFILM ColorPath™ color management solution. The center is fully capable of printing to all industry color standards including G7 ®, SWOP, and GRACoL. Fujifilm has staffed the center with print technical experts in the areas of workflow, print production, and color management.

“Printers need to continually invest in the most effective technologies to support their businesses from an operational and production standpoint,” said Sanker. “We see sweeping changes taking place in the types of investments required today, compared to prior years, and inkjet technology is at the forefront of this change. The development of new and innovative inkjet printing solutions is at the forefront of our strategy at Fujifilm Graphic Systems. The Technical Center for Inkjet Printing gives customers the opportunity to see firsthand how our leadership position in inkjet technology can have a positive impact on their business in many aspects.

“The Technology Center for Inkjet Printing is a critical step in supporting our strategy to promote inkjet printing, introduce our customers to Fujifilm Inkjet Technology, and provide them with the vital information they need to make such an important purchasing decision.”
