Roland Owners Win Twelve Coveted Golden Image Awards

Roland DGA Corporation has announced that six Roland owners have won a total of twelve prestigious Golden Image Awards at the Specialty Graphics Imaging Association (SGIA) 2014 Expo.

Held October 22-24 in Las Vegas, the SGIA Expo is widely recognized as the industry’s most prominent annual forum for digital imagers to showcase their finest work. SGIA’s Golden Image Awards competition celebrates industry-leading excellence and encompasses a wide range of categories that illustrate the spectrum of valuable products and services enabled by specialty imaging technologies. This year’s winning entries were selected from hundreds of submissions by an elite team of imaging professionals who awarded gold, silver and bronze ribbons for the best prints.

“The talents and capabilities of Roland users have once again impressed the SGIA judges,” said Roland DGA President Rick Scrimger. “We congratulate all of the award winners on their achievements, and we look forward to playing a continuing role in supplying innovative digital printing equipment that helps them take their creative accomplishments to new heights.”

Below is a list of businesses that received 2014 Golden Image Awards for the prints they produced on their Roland wide format inkjets, along with brief descriptions of their respective entries:

Cascade Graphics – Bend, OR

Gold Award Winner – Category: Decals, Labels, Stickers, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: SOL Republic Budweiser Headset
Brief Description: Bend, Oregon-based Cascade Graphics and Design impressed the SGIA judges with a customized headset featuring Budweiser graphics created on an Roland VersaUV® LEC series printer/cutter.

Gold Award Winner – Category: Plastic Products, Three-Dimensional, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Hawaiian Floral Print Monster Power Card
Brief Description: Cascade Graphics and Design used a Roland VersaUV LEC series UV printer/cutter to print a floral pattern directly on a power card for San Francisco-based Monster Products.

Silver Award Winner – Category: Plastic Products, Three-Dimensional, Subgroup D: Digital

Title: SOL Republic DECK – Red Bull Print

Brief Description: The Cascade Graphics and Design team used a Roland VersaUV LEC series UV inkjet to print a Red Bull logo directly on a Bluetooth speaker for their client, San Francisco-based SOL Republic.

Gold Award Winner – Category: Interior Design, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Beats by Dr. Dre Wallcovering (pictured, right)
Brief Description: Metropolitan West in Los Angeles used metallic wallcovering with a white ink overlay to create a unique look. The graphics were printed on a Roland VersaUV LEJ-640 hybrid UV printer.

Modagrafics, Rolling Meadows, IL

Silver Award Winner – Category: Unique Applications, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Maya Romanoff Wall Graphic
Brief Description: Rolling Meadows, Illinois-based Modagraphics wowed the judges with an impressive hand-beaded Maya Romanoff wall graphic created using a Roland wide format printer and 3-mil Avery vinyl.

Silver Award Winner – Category: Retail/POP Displays/Exhibits, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Ziploc Aluminum Display
Brief Description: The Modagrafics team used an advanced Roland VersaUV printer to produce an eye-catching display for Ziploc Aluminum.

Title: Standsoft Coffee Mug Design Memory Foam Rug (pictured, right)
Brief Description: Bacova Guild Ltd. in Covington, Virginia used a Roland VersaArt® RE-640 and dye sublimation inks to produce a coffee cup design for Bacova Guild’s Standsoft line of memory foam rugs.

Bronze Award Winner – Category: Textile Products (Other), Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Waterfall Leaves Bath Collection
Brief Description: Clifton Thomas, graphic designer at Bacova Guild Ltd., used a Roland VersaArt RE-640 and dye-sublimation inks to produce this collection for Bacova Guild’s Waterfall Leaves bath line.

Santi Arts Hi-Tech Medias Limited, India

Silver Award Winner – Category: Vacuum-formed/Distortion printed products, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Rajendra Gurudev
Brief Description: A Roland wide format printer enabled Santi Arts Hi-Tech Medias Limited to incorporate unique embossing effects, adding appeal to graphics featuring the traditional arch used by the Jain Community.

Bronze Award Winner – Category: Vacuum-Formed/Distortion Printed Products, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Thumbs Up
Brief Description: Santi Arts Hi-Tech Medias Limited used a Roland wide format printer to produce 3D visual effects that make this entry’s graphics truly stand out.

Alpine Graphics Production, Ltd., Nevada City, CA

Honorable Mention – Vehicle Wraps, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: D-Drops 1970 Milk Truck Wrap
Brief Description: Nevada City, California-based Alpine Graphics relied on a state-of-the-art Roland SOLJET® Pro 4 XR-640 to deliver the detailed prints needed for this nostalgic truck wrap.

Honorable Mention – Building Graphics, Subgroup D: Digital
Title: Anti-Graffiti Wall Graphic for High School Girls Washroom
Brief Description: Vibrant graphics printed on a Roland SOLJET Pro 4 XR-640 brighten up the walls of this high school washroom, while also helping to prevent graffiti.

In addition to the Golden Image Award winners listed above, two Roland users received Certificate of Merit awards in SGIA’s Student Printing Competition. Josh Davis, a student at East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, was recognized for his “State Wrestling Shirt” created using a Roland CAMM 1 series GX-24 vinyl cutter, while Gladys Cabrera of Eagle Rock Junior/Senior High School was honored for her “Football Banner” produced on a Roland VersaCAMM® SP-300i printer.
