Champion Celebrates Milestone Anniversary and New General Manager

Champion Sign Supply celebrated its twenty-year anniversary in July 2014 and welcomed a new general manager, Heather Chaney, in January. Champion was founded in 1994 by S. Wayne Hurst after spending several years in the sign industry, first as an employee at Ollis Signs in Jonesboro, Georgia. Continuing his entrepreneur ethos that began in junior high school, he established his own sign company, Autograph Signs in the late 1980s.

Hurst sold Autograph Signs in 1991 and in mid-1994 decided to go into the wholesale sign industry and started Champion Sign Supply out of his own garage. The business grew and a few years later he expanded into a warehouse in Morrow’s industrial area.

Champion sells materials primarily to the sign and graphics industry, with sales to a customer base in the metro Atlanta area as well as shipping to much of the southeast and beyond.

After twenty years of building the Champion brand, Hurst was looking for someone to manage the daily operations and help to lead Champion to the next level.  Heather Chaney spent seven years in the retail sign industry and completed her MBA at Clayton State University in May 2014.  She is also an experienced entrepreneur, the former owner of Gezzo’s Surf & Grille restaurant in Morrow.  “She is the first female general manager at Champion and I look forward to working with her,” said Hurst.

W.H. Ollis Jr., owner of Ollis Signs, complimented Hurst, “Champion has good products and great employees. A real success story.”
