Storefronts Shine Bright with Bayer Polycarbonate Sheet

Companies are looking for a way to stand apart from the competition. Like a signpost in a strange land, channel letters and signage applications using polycarbonate sheet from Bayer MaterialScience LLC can help light up interest in a business and attract customers.

Creating an eye-catching sign is made easier with a broad selection of Makrolon® polycarbonate sheet material from Bayer that can meet the rigorous requirements of channel letters and other thermoformed applications. As a full-service sheet supplier to the sign industry, Bayer will highlight a family of engineered polycarbonate sheet products for signage at the ISA International Sign Expo 2014 being held April 24-26 in Orlando, Florida. Here’s a preview.

Makrolon® LD polycarbonate sheet from Bayer helps to deliver uniform light diffusion and eliminates hot spotting for today’s LED signage, including channel letters. In fact, the exceptional light diffusion offered by this specialized sheet grade reduces shadowing—even at smaller LED-diffuser sheet distances—making it possible to design shallow channel letters and sign faces. This grade is an enhanced ultraviolet (UV)-resistant product and meets the UL 879 standard for use in electric signs.

Makrolon SL polycarbonate sheet, an enhanced UV-resistant product with exceptional weatherability and superior impact strength, will also be featured. It is available in a variety of sheet and reel sizes and also meets the UL 879 standard for electrical signage. Applications include flat and formed sign faces. Additionally Bayer will highlight a matte-finish grade of Makrolon SL polycarbonate sheet, which is ideal for adding a non-glare appearance to high-performance signage.

ISA International Sign Expo 2014 attendees have the opportunity to see some of Bayer’s polycarbonate sheet products at booth #1764 during the show. Bayer’s booth will illustrate the versatility of polycarbonate sheet with tabletops of Makrolon AR sheet. The tabletops will rest on a reel core that is faced with Makrolon LD polycarbonate sheet lit from within to demonstrate the sheet’s superior light diffusion characteristics and high light transmission. The sheet is easy to form, fabricate and decorate, as well as having excellent impact strength and dimensional stability. Sign grade products offer the added convenience of being cold-formed onsite.

A supplier of extruded thermoplastic sheet products for more than 60 years, Bayer offers an extensive stocking inventory and full range of standard industry colors. In addition to signage, the company’s broad portfolio of Makrolon polycarbonate sheet products has been proven in the architectural, security, transportation, industrial, and recreational markets.
