LIGHTFAIR International 2007 New York Features Largest Tradeshow and Conference in Eighteen-year History
Atlanta, Georgia—Attendees from around the world—a spectacular 21,700+ in all—welcomed a future illuminated as LIGHTFAIR International 2007 presented its largest show in its eighteen-year history. As the lighting industry’s premier annual event, LFI 2007 presented its most energized and dynamic showing ever-featuring a newly redesigned tradeshow floor and dramatic decor, as well as a New York conference larger in size and more diverse in offerings than ever before.
A record breaking number of attendees from 59 countries and 50 states networked with their choice of some 480 exhibiting manufacturers showcasing the latest product innovations and introductions, technological advances, and design solutions. Twenty-one percent of these manufacturers represented international countries, including Italy, Germany, Russia, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, and The Netherlands, to name a few. LFI 2007 also welcomed 114 first-time exhibiting companies, adding more lines and designs to the Show.
LFI attendees-tradeshow and conference participants-came from a variety of industry disciplines and represented a broad cross-section of professions including:
Architects/Landscape Architect/Interior Designers 8.66%
Architectural & Theatrical Lighting Designers 7.29%
Consultants 4.12%
Electrical & General Contractors 4.06%
Engineers & Electrical Engineers 7.89%
Lighting & Electrical Distributors 12.03%
Other attendees included Representatives, ESCOs, Lighting Retailers, Visual Merchandisers, and Facility Managers/Owners.
In its two featured product-specific Pavilions-the LIGHTFAIR Daylighting Pavilion and the LIGHTFAIR Design Pavilion-LFI 2007 offered attendees the widest range of Pavilion-related products to date. The Daylighting Pavilion featured nineteen companies, many of which were new to the event, representing the complete range of daylighting-specific products. The growth and popularity of the Daylighting Pavilion mirrors the direction of this movement as the world becomes more familiar with the advantages of bringing natural light into interiors.
“We can only echo the findings of other participants in that LFI 2007 was outstanding for VELUX, with a great cross section of customers coming by our booth in a regular steady stream from start to finish,” says VELUX Western Regional Commercial Marketing Manager Ray Capowich. “Show management was great too-presenting tasteful lounges and events that proved very supportive and conducive to business development. I can safely speak for VELUX, in saying we’ve been very pleased with the results from LFI 2005, 2006, and 2007.”
The Design Pavilion also grew in size and showcased thirty-seven exhibiting companies. It featured manufacturers of high-end fixtures from across Europe and the world.
“Lightfair is a great marketing opportunity for us,” says Clayton Alexander, president and owner of Journée Lighting, Inc. “We’ve been happy with the results from both the Las Vegas and New York shows.”
The conference component also proved highly successful as LFI 2007 hosted its largest New York conference program ever with 213 hours of CEU-accredited courses, workshops and seminars. Conference curriculum included lighting software applications, lighting fundamentals, advanced lighting courses, LEED, environmental impacts, case studies, LED technology, design innovation, and product updates, as well as lighting-related health and wellness studies. Programming such as the LIGHTFAIR Daylighting Institute® and the LIGHTFAIR Institute™ addressed the specialized needs and challenges facing the architectural, design, and engineering communities.
Ben van Berkel, director of the UNStudio in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Dr. Chris Luebkeman, Director of Global Foresight & Innovation at the ARUP Group in London, UK, were featured as keynote speakers during the Institutes’ luncheons.
“LFI 2007 was phenomenal on every level,” says Libby Morley, vice president of tradeshows, LIGHTFAIR International. “Not only was it the largest LFI to date with the highest attendance ever, but the exhibitors outshone themselves with the products and exhibits they presented. We continue to receive accolades from the industry at large about the success of the event and we’re looking forward to taking this enthusiasm and excitement forward to LFI 2008 in Las Vegas.”
