Iowa Hall of Pride Adds Fair-Play Scoreboards Exhibit

Des Moines, Iowa—Ever since it opened to the public two years ago, the Iowa Hall of Pride has showcased the achievements of all Iowans, from student athletes to sports legends and movie stars to scientists. Now you can add ‘scoreboard innovator’ to that list.

A recent addition to the museum ensures a presence for Fair-Play Scoreboards and founding father Elmer Foster, who, in 1934, developed the first affordable remotely controlled game clock that showed time remaining instead of time elapsed.

Fair-Play recently donated a three-sided wrestling scoreboard—identical to the ones used in this year’s state wrestling tournament—to the Iowa Hall of Pride, located within the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines. Alongside the scoreboard is a brief history of the company that Foster started in the attic and basement of his home.

“The original scoreboard was built in Dallas Center, Iowa, by Fair-Play founder Elmer Foster, so we are very much a part of Iowa history,” said Fair-Play Regional Sales Manager Dan Weidner. “The opportunity to donate a scoreboard for display in the Iowa Hall of Pride was a no-brainer.”

The exhibit’s debut came in conjunction with this year’s state wrestling and boy’s and girl’s basketball tournaments at Wells Fargo Arena. Fair-Play donated sixteen custom scoreboards and eight three-sided scoreboards for the state wrestling tournament.
