Illinois Sign Association Announces Sign Design Winners

Springfield, Illinois—The Illinois Sign association (ISA) announced the winners of its annual Sign Design Contest at the recent Fall Conference, September 26-27, 2006 in Springfield, Illinois.
The association has been holding the Sign Design Contest for the past twenty-two years to showcase creativity in design, medium and execution in eight different category types. There were twenty-five entries in this year’s contest. The eight categories included: Illuminated Signage, Non-Illuminated Signage, Exposed Neon, Commercial Signage, Vehicle Graphics, Exterior Illuminated & Non-Illuminated Letters & Graphics, Digital Graphics, and the Humorous Sign category.
Members present at the awards banquet voted on the Best of the Best Sign Design among the sixteen award-winning entries (excluding the Humorous Sign entries). Van Bruggen Signs, Inc.’s (Orland Park, Illinois) RPM Sports Grill & Bar sign (pictured), an entry in the Non-Illuminated Signage category, was chosen for the top honor. The association’s Sign Supply Distributors joined together to provide a $500 cash prize to this year’s “Best of the Best” sign winner.

The RPM Sports Grill & Bar sign is a fabricated aluminum, non-illuminated projecting sign for historic district restaurant, and was designed in house by Bob Behounek and Bill Van Bruggen. The sign features multi-level PVC appliqué. The letters and accents are routed from 1-inch, 1/2-inch, and 1/4-inch PVC and attached with concealed fasteners. The tachometer is made of 1/2-inch PVC with clear plex face panel, 1/4–inch PVC dimensional needle, and retainer ring. The sign and dimensional graphics are finished in Matthews acrylic polyurethane.
The Humorous Sign category returned again, with the winner receiving a “humorous” prize. The entry from Van Bruggen Signs, Inc. walked away with Humorous Sign award.
