Gemini Award1. OSHA Recognizes Gemini’s Safety Practices at Texas Plant

Gemini Incorporated employees at the manufacturing facilities in Taylor, Texas were recently honored with OSHA’s Safety and Health Recognition Program (SHARP) Award at a recognition ceremony. This is Gemini’s third facility to receive SHARP status, joining the company’s Minnesota and Iowa locations.

The SHARP program recognizes employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. Acceptance into SHARP by OSHA singles an employer out as a model for worksite safety and health. Only an elite group of businesses ever attain SHARP status.

“This is a great accomplishment and one that is further confirmation that Gemini takes company safety seriously,” said Gemini President Fred Oss. “This is a big award, perhaps one of the biggest you can achieve in the area of safety.”

According to Jet Tran, Gemini’s Safety and Environmental officer, the credit for the award goes to employees and the commitment they have demonstrated toward safety. “We believe safety is our responsibility both in and out of the plants, and we’re continually looking for ways to improve,” Tran said.  “We are very appreciative of the support and assistance by the people at Texas OSHA.  The input and resources they have provided us with have helped Gemini develop an effective and comprehensive safety program.”

At its Texas facilities, Gemini manufactures cast letters, flat cut metal letters, and Formed plastic letters.

2. NEC Wins Two 2010 DIGI Awards

NEC Display Solutions of America received two DIGI Awards for excellence in digital signage at Pei Wei Restaurants and Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

NEC-1The Pei Wei project was recognized in the “Retail Roll-out, National” category, and it featured the installation of 486 digital menu boards at 162 locations. Each location included two 46-inch displays showcasing the menu and branding, while a third display allowed for a design specific to each restaurant.

The Raleigh-Durham airport won for “Best Digital Signage Deployment for Transportation.” Nearly 400 NEC large format displays are operated from a central location at the airport. They were selected for their durability, low failure rate, ability to adjust to ambient light, and easy maintenance and operation.

NEC-2“Winning two DIGI Awards is a distinct honor for our company,” said Mike Zmuda, director of Business Development for NEC Display.  “Our work with Pei Wei and Raleigh-Durham reveals the unique requirements of every digital signage deployment and how forward-thinking organizations are changing the visual landscapes of their venues to improve the customer experience.”

OSRAM-AwardThe SFH 5712, one of only twelve products selected for Electronic Products’ 35th annual Product of the Year awards, is a low-voltage digital ambient light sensor that converts light intensity to digital signal output capable of direct I2C interface, detecting ambient brightness in the same way the human eye does.
