A record number of sign, graphics and visual communications companies across North America will invite students to learn more about career opportunities as part of ISA Sign Manufacturing Day 2018. The event will be held October 5, throughout the U.S. and Canada. (Note: Some companies may alter the dates to accommodate school breaks and other issues.)

Sign Manufacturing Day, sponsored by the International Sign Association in conjunction with the National Association of Manufacturers, is now in its sixth year. The event continues to show unprecedented growth, with the number of participating companies up 26 percent over 2017. In 2018, one sign company has had so many schools interested in participating that they have scheduled more than one day to meet the demand.

“We continue to hear companies discuss the challenge they are having in finding the next generation of workers,” said Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO. “The interest in participating proves that this event is providing a solution to that challenge. Companies have successfully used this day to build year-round relationships with local high schools, community colleges and technical schools, and to hire skilled workers to help grow their businesses.”

Participating companies are provided a toolkit that helps them connect with area educators and helps them showcase the diverse careers available in the sign, graphics and visual communications industry. In 2017, more than 3,700 students visited a sign, graphics and visual communications company as part of Sign Manufacturing Day.

“ISA Sign Manufacturing Day has grown into the program that we hoped it would: a year-round initiative to showcase the excellent and varied careers that our industry offers,” said Alison Kent, ISA’s director of workforce development. “Participating companies and their workers are thrilled to showcase what they do every day. Students and educators are excited to learn more about the industry. It truly is a win-win for all involved.”
