GMG to Showcase Complete Packaging Prototyping System

GMGcolor

GMG, the leading developer and supplier of high-end color management software solutions, today announced it will be participating in the Color ’19 conference showcasing a complete package proofing solution featuring the Epson SureColor S80600 with GMG OpenColor Technology.

GMGcolorThe bundle solution closes the gap between traditional prototyping and contract quality proofing and has already been adopted by many of the major prepress suppliers in the industry. This solution, when fully implemented, makes the existing prototyping solutions immediately obsolete.

“Previous prototyping solutions from GMG and others, could create prototypes that only resembled the final product” according to Paulo Monteiro, VP Sales GMG Americas. “We have been delivering prototyping solutions based on eco-solvent and UV printers for years, but these solutions always fell short of the color quality and final product appearance that was needed. The GMG solution, based on the Epson SureColor S80600, coupled with GMG OpenColor and our complete line of prototyping substrates, can finally create prototypes that look and feel exactly like the final product”

This new benchmark in quality is the result of the combination of groundbreaking performance of the Epson SureColor S80600 printer, the incredible power of GMG OpenColor and GMG ColorProof software and the most complete line of JetComp packaging substrates available today. A closer look at each of these components illustrates how this solution finally closes the gap between the prototype and the final product.

Epson SureColor S80600

The Epson SureColor S80600 64-inch solvent printer is at the heart of this packaging proofing solution. Incorporating an all new UltraChrome® GS3 ink set the SureColor S80600 leverages Red ink to produce vivid output with an expansive color gamut and outstanding color vibrancy, plus optional White or Silver ink, for best-in-class photographic output quality. When combined with the new precision media feeding system and high performance Dual-Array Epson PrecisionCore® TFP print head, the SureColor S80600 redefines the price-performance equation, producing high-quality, sellable output at impressive production speeds.

GMG OpenColor and GMG ColorProof

The award winning GMG OpenColor technology has quickly become the dominant extended gamut (ECG) color technology in the world today. It offers easy to use ECG profile technology with color accuracy beyond any other technology available. It has been adopted by most of the major converters and prepress suppliers worldwide. It is also the most open ECG technology available with direct connections to Pantone Live, multiple ink formulation systems, and most popular workflow solutions. GMG OpenColor reduces cost and production turn-around via its dynamic profiling capability. With OpenColor, once a press fingerprint is completed, all of the profiles needed are dynamically created without operator intervention or profile editing. This includes all profiles needed for color separation, via the GMG ColorPlugin for Photoshop and our partners, contract proofing profiles via GMG ColorProof and now GMG OpenColor creates color accurate prototyping profiles from the shared press fingerprint, on-the-fly within the GMG prototyping solution.

The final piece of the prototyping puzzle is the wide variety of substrates needed to meet the needs of the complex world of packaging today. GMG together with JetComp offers 27 different prototyping substrates including multiple shrink films, folding carton materials, metallic films, adhesive backed substrates, ‘invisible’ clear materials and even transfer films for making prototypes on the actual press materials. The GMG materials share a common ink receptive surface that makes it easy to switch between multiple substrates without time consuming and complex media calibration processes. All of the media calibration tools needed are managed by GMG OpenColor within the GMG prototyping solution.

“The Epson SureColor S80600 is an exceptional printer,” adds Monteiro. “GMG believes that it’s the ideal solution when paired with GMG color technology. GMG finally closes the gap between contract proofing and prototyping, helping set attainable expectations on press. This is critical for achieving profitability in the highly competitive packaging marketplace.”

At Color ’19, GMG—a conference platinum sponsor—GMG will showcase samples produced by this system on its table.
