Covestro’s Polycarbonate Sheets Help Create Signage with Superior Performance and Cool Designs

Where am I? What is this company? When will the store be open? Consumers rely on signage for answers to these questions and much more. For attractive and long-lasting commercial signage, manufacturers rely on Covestro’s materials. These materials will be on display at International Sign Association (ISA) Sign Expo, the largest gathering of sign and graphics professionals.

The 18,000 predicted Expo attendees will have the opportunity to visit Covestro at booth 1762 during the show April 20-23, in Orlando. Covestro’s booth will showcase a variety of the company’s high-performance polycarbonate sheet products for channel letters and signage applications. With its extensive inventory of ready-to-ship polycarbonate sheets, Covestro has the right material solution to solve manufacturers’ signage challenges.

Makrolon® LD polycarbonate sheet meets the requirements for oversized or formed channel letters and cloud signs. This material grade is available in an extensive industry-standard color palette and is easy to form, fabricate and decorate. Because of the material’s proprietary light diffusion technology that provides excellent light uniformity without sacrificing light transmission, there is no need for added diffuser films or textures. Makrolon LD polycarbonate sheet’s advanced diffuser technology eliminates visible hot spots from pinpoint LED lights in typical flat and formed sign applications. Additionally, the product incorporates ultraviolet (UV)-resistance technology for long-lasting, outdoor weathering performance.

Signage and kiosks in indoor and outdoor public facilities, such as airports and hotels, benefit from the anti-graffiti protection of Makrolon® Abrasion Resistant (AR) polycarbonate sheet. Its exclusive hardcoat technology provides protection against UV damage, chemicals and abrasion, like that experienced in high-traffic areas or through frequent cleanings. This exceptional durability translates to a significant reduction in maintenance costs over the life of the product when compared with other glazing materials. The material’s strength and durability do not limit the designs possible with this transparent polycarbonate sheet.

Makrolon® SL polycarbonate sheet meets UL 879 standards for electrical signage applications. The high-performance material provides excellent impact resistance, enhanced UV protection and exceptional weatherability for signage applications in any environment. Makrolon SL polycarbonate sheet is available in a variety of sheet and reel sizes and can be easily fabricated, thermoformed and decorated. Manufacturers can choose from transparent, one of nine industry-standard colors or a matte finish.

Makrolon multi UV polycarbonate sheet is part of Covestro’s family of ribbed, structured profile sheet products. All of the multiwall materials in this line have proven UV-blocking and protection technology. Lightweight signage made with Makrolon® multi UV polycarbonate sheet has excellent weathering and impact resistance making it an ideal material choice for outdoor signage.

Designed for lighting lenses, translucent Makrolon® Lumen XT polycarbonate sheet is a popular choice for LED light fixtures. The material features a unique combination of high light diffusion and high light transmission courtesy of a blend of optimized surface texture and advanced diffuser technologies. This sheet grade offers superior impact strength, toughness, enhanced flamability resistance and a larger service temperature range than alternative materials like glass and acrylic. Makrolon Lumen XT polycarbonate sheet is available in a broad range of standard diffusion levels as well as a warm (LW) or a cool (LC) hue providing designers with flexibility to maximize their products’ appearance and performance.

Another material option for use in LED light fixtures is Makrolon® DX-NR polycarbonate sheet. Like Makrolon Lumen XT polycarbonate sheet, the Makrolon DX-NR polycarbonate sheet grade is a translucent material offering superior impact strength, toughness and flamability resistance when compared with acrylic and glass. Makrolon DX-NR polycarbonate sheet was also developed for lighting lenses, but this material grade is intended for outdoor applications. Signage utilizing this polycarbonate sheet grade benefits from the long-lasting weathering performance enabled by the material’s enhanced UV-resistance technology.

Visitors to Covestro’s booth can see and feel samples of these outstanding engineered polycarbonate sheets. They will also be able to speak with Covestro’s polycarbonate sheet experts to learn more about these material grades and other offerings in Covestro’s poycarbonate sheet portfolio. No matter your commercial signage needs, Covestro has the material to help you convey your message and stand out from the crowd.
