Illinois State U. Redbird Arena Features New Centerhung and Ribbon Displays

Redbird fans will have a new reason to cheer at events inside Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois, as Illinois State University has partnered with Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, to design, manufacture, and install a new LED video display system. The new centerhung configuration and ribbon displays are scheduled to be installed and operational at the beginning of 2016.

“We’ve been fortunate to partner once again with Daktronics for new video and ribbon displays in Redbird Arena,” said Peyton Deterding, Illinois State University assistant athletic director of facilities. “The addition of these two pieces provide a stunning upgrade and enhanced experience for fans during Redbird contests. As well, the increased flexibility for our corporate sponsors allows us the potential for expanded relationships with new and existing partners.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add this new dimension to Redbird Athletics.”

The four-sided centerhung system consists of four LED displays, each measuring more than 8 feet high-by-14.5 feet wide and featuring 6 millimeter line spacing for crisp, clear imagery at wide angle visibility to appeal to every seat in Redbird Arena. These displays feature variable content zoning that allows them each to show one large image or to be divided into multiple windows to show any variety of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and advertising or sponsorship messages.

Below the main displays, an LED ring display measure 3 feet high-by-49 feet in circumference and feature 6 millimeter line spacing. Along the seating fascia of the facility, two new ribbon displays are installed, each measuring 3 feet high-by-141 feet long. These displays are able to provide complimentary content to the main displays as well as providing the ability to highlight sponsors throughout events.

“We’re excited to extend our partnership with Illinois State University from football to basketball for Redbirds athletics,” said Joey Hulsebus, Daktronics sales representative. “The new displays will bring the excitement and atmosphere to another level for Redbird fans and their overall game-day experience. We’re excited for the impact this system provides at university events.”

In addition to the equipment installation, Illinois State University will also receive a bank of hours for the creation of digital content to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services at the request of the Redbirds.

This will be the second installation on campus following the football displays that were installed in 2014. For more information on the football installation, read the news release.
