Washburn University’s New Daktronics Outdoor Display to Pump Up the Crowd on Game Day

Soccer and football fans will see and hear a difference this coming fall during athletic events at Washburn University as a new type of atmosphere will be added to Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl. The Ichabods will experience a new video display and audio system designed, manufactured, and installed by Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, South Dakota. The installation will be complete in time for the Ichabod football team’s season opener on September 4 in Topeka, Kansas.

“We are extremely excited to add a new scoreboard to our on-going renovations of Yager Stadium,” Washburn Athletic Director Loren Ferré said. “To add a video board will certainly enhance the game-day experience for our fans and student athletes. To work with a quality company like Daktronics we know we will have state-of-the-art equipment and we are excited about all the new opportunities this board will provide. We would like to thank our advertisers who stepped up and made this happen.”

The main outdoor display will measure approximately 19 feet high-by-40 feet wide and will feature a 15 HD pixel layout. The display can show one large image to highlight video or break up into separate sections to show vivid graphics and animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information, and sponsor advertisements. This new display will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility to reach all Washburn fans, while providing multiple levels of protection from the elements.

“I think the new video board is a fantastic addition to Yager Stadium,” Ichabod Head Soccer Coach Tim Collins said. “It enhances the experience for fans, shows the commitment to excellence the athletics department holds dear and will allow our student athletes to further their own playing experience at Washburn.”

A Sportsound 1500 audio system, which will be integrated with the video and scoring system, will also be added to the stadium, replacing the current speakers that are attached to the Bianchinno Pavilion. The system provides full-range sound reproduction and delivers clear and intelligible speech. The SS1500 provides a powerful audio experience for the fans. Daktronics audio offers high-quality audio systems that can integrate with dynamic displays in indoor and outdoor sport venues.

“Right now we have outstanding facilities and the ability to make an improvement with the scoreboard and to make it part of the entertainment of the game is very big,” Ichabod Head Football Coach Craig Schurig said. “It will add another dimension to the fan atmosphere with music, video, and everything. With the conference that we’re in, you have to keep pace. We’re already in the higher echelon of Division II, but we want to have facilities that will rival the Division I schools, and this will put us there.”

“We’re extremely excited to partner with Washburn University to install this new LED display and audio system to enhance the Yager Stadium game-day experience,” said Ryan Kuzman, Daktronics sales representative. “This new solution will be a great addition to the stadium and to the number of different events that take place there. We look forward to the new equipment enhancing the excitement level for Ichabods fans for many years to come.”
