Roland TShirtForumT-ShirtForums.com has announced that KA Grafix of Fredericksburg, Virginia, was voted the grand prize winner in the forum’s Seventh Anniversary Design Contest Extravaganza. As the contest winner, KA Grafix will receive a new Roland VersaStudio BN-20 T-shirt printing press, complete with a supply of inks and media.

With more than 170,000 members, T-ShirtForums.com is the industry’s largest online community of T-shirt designers, printers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs. Each year, the forum sponsors a themed T-shirt design contest on its website at www.t-shirtforums.com. This year’s contest drew 89 entries, each designed around the theme, “Social Media.”

The winning design, ‘Battle of the Giants,’ depicts the two top social media companies battling it out in a comical, yet intriguing image. The graphic artfully features Facebook as an open book, with its pages fanned out to reveal a woman’s face. While this image clearly dominates the design, it appears to be under attack by a storm of blue feathers representing the rise of Twitter.

“We had a blast brain storming for this theme, and the consensus was ‘less is more,’” said Marina Caminos, business manager for KA Grafix. “There were so many great designs represented in this contest. It is a real honor to have won, and we’re excited to begin printing with our new VersaStudio BN-20.

“This printer will open up additional areas for us as a company, as we had to outsource specific projects previously. Being a new start-up, diversity is paramount in maintaining a presence in the apparel decorating community. We feel the Versa Studio BN-20 will assist us in meeting our company vision.”

At twenty inches wide, Roland’s VersaStudio BN-20 printer/cutter is the perfect production tool for T-shirt heat transfers, printing, and contour-cutting designs in one seamless workflow. In addition, the BN-20 can be used to print a wide range of graphics, including stickers, decals, posters, window signs, floor graphics and banners.

Three eco-solvent ink configurations are available, including CMYK only, CMYK plus metallic silver ink for adding high-end metallic colors and effects to graphics, and CMYK plus white ink for printing on clear media.

Priced at $8,495, including VersaWorks RIP software, the VersaStudio BN-20 is available through authorized Roland dealers, and is supported by the company’s industry-leading customer service, support and training. Roland also offers a selection of profiled media sized to fit the BN-20, including its popular HTM2 heat transfer material, available in twenty-inch rolls.
